Leadership is both a social and individual phenomena, so everyone can relate to this topic in some way. Everyone wants to be a leader and claims to have leadership skills. Leadership exists in all walks of life. The difference lies in how people perceive themselves and the ability to influence other people. “Leadership is in the eye of the beholder,” says Professor Golzmann-Granat. Leadership is more than a career. It involves thinking and learning, along with taking risks. As leader, one needs to plan ahead. “Leadership is much more than decision-making. You have to do research and make sure the right decisions are made.” If leaders are to be effective, they need to develop leadership skills and serve as a role model. “Leadership has to do with moral values. We have to do the right thing. Leadership is not about the power of money; it’s about the power of ideas.” Golzmann-Granat made it clear that being a leader has to do with values, and that you cannot measure leadership by “scoring high” on leadership tests or surveys. “No one will give you anything. You have to earn it.
